24lb Fuel injectors?

I saw an ad on summit racing for 24lb fuel injectors, a set of 8 for $229.99. They were ACCEL. I buying a 350 and im going to put on my 86 305 TPI set up on it. Will these injectors work on my car or will i need something like a new fuel pump? Any info would be great! Thanks!

The 24 lb injectors will work. On a stock engine they might make it run a little rich though.

They'll work fine as long as you have a chip with the injector constant set appropriately. If you try to run it with the stock 305 chip it will urn way too rich and potnetially destroy your new engine before it's even broken in from washing the cylinders down with fuel though. Reason being, the ECM thinks you have 19lb injectors. So for a certain airflow reading, the ECM will inject a certain amount of fuel. With 24lb injectors, that certain amount of fuel is now over 25% too much.

How much would it cost for a new chip and where could i get one? Would i be better of going with a 22lb fuel injector? I couldn't find one on the summit racings web site. Thanks for the help! :hail:

You'll need a custom burnt PROM and they'll cost some $$$. Go with the 22lbs instead, and a stock prom from a 350..........

For not much over $150 you can buy the equipment to burn your own PROM with the injector constant set however you want.

I know people don't like hearing this, but modifying fuel injection has some inherent costs to it. If you can afford to build a fast EFI car, then you can afford to buy the stuff to burn the PROM. It beats the hell out of me how someone can spend money on an engine, heads, cam, etc and then bitch that they had to spend more money for a chip. They would have been better off skipping the JUNK mods (like airfoil, $80 MSD wires on a NA motor, pullies, etc.) or even skipping something that can be easily added later (like TB) and doing it right the first time.

And if you're talking about budget build up, then there are a lot of areas that make sense to save money on that you could then apply to PROM equipment. For example, if you're not making a lot of power, you can pick up a set of used 22 or 24 lb (LT1) injectors fro under $50, and have them flowmatched and cleaned for under $100. So there's $80 you just saved vs. buying new 24lbers, and you're already halfway to the PROM burning equipment right there. And like GTA324 said, if you go with 22s, you can just run a stock 350 chip in a MAF car. That is the proper way to try to save money while you work.

I'm sure someone will try to call me a rich arrogant ***** or something, alawyas happens in this debate, but chances are their car is slower than mine with more work done to it. Hmmm, so who's the rich arrogant *****, i haven't thrown money at my car to make it faster, i wish i could afford to do more work to it. What i have done is modded it wisely, and that is what i'm trying to convey. If you want to go fast with EFI and your name isn't bill gates you have to think out a plan BEFORE you spend a single penny. And if you want to change injectors (and engines in the case of a SD car), the cost of a PROM HAS to be added in or you're just playing with yourself. I mean, do you guys resuse gaskets too when you do mods cuz damn they start to get expensive. There are right ways and wrong ways to cut corners. And the chip is as vital to a properly running modded EFI car

Since i have no clue how to burn my own prom how about if i go to the junk yard and find something from a TA or camaro with a 350? It has to be from a TPI and not a TBI right? i dont know if the other one would work but i doubt it. just a thought.

The odds of finding the chip you need in a junkyard falls somewhere between slim and none. 99% of yards would know what they had if they had a TPI car, and wouldn't seel justy the chip, they'd want to sel the whole TPI and harness together to get the most value from it.

Your best bet is ebay or just go to a dealer. A chip from the dealer should be somwhere between $50-70 IIRC.

You want to get a chip for an 89 350 car. Since it is the 'newest' MAF chip, it will have the best stuff in it. To put it another way, it's like your 86 came with windows 95, and the 89 chip would be like upgrading to XP. Since the better chip will work with your car, you might as well use it.

An 89 chip will also let you remove / disable the cold start injector.
