At first this may sound real stupid, but it's been bothering me. Bear with me. I'm going to be doing the TPI swap soon. I know i need to change the fuel pump. My question is can i leave the old one in the tank, block the lines and cut off the power to it and mount an external fuel pump? Basically i want an external pump anyway, so why not leave the old one in there? Would it cause any problems? Thanx

You'd have to run both pumps to make it work "right" and it's compromised at that point. Pull the tank, replace the pump.
I've heard of guys doing this before where they just leave the pump disconnected in the tank and run an external one. I have no idea how to do it, but Ive heard of it done. I personally think you should stick with the internal one since it is a lot quieter and while you're in the tank you should install a baffled pickup for the new pump for hard conering with low fuel levels.
