'85 TPI won't start, no spark
Ok my friends '85 TPI IROC died a few week ago as he pulled out of his driveway. It wouldn't start back. A lot of smoke came out from under the dash as he was trying to push it out of the road.
Yesterday we got around to trying to fix it. It has no spark. We tested the coil and the pickup coil with a meter. The coil tests out fine, but the pickup was bad. We put one on. Still no spark. We tried another ignition module, still won't start. The coil is gettiing power at it's battery terminal. Anybody got a clue? The next thing we need to change out is the coil I guess, but it test out ok on the meter.
Oh there is a burnt wire at the dash cluster, I think it was the tach wire that fried that day. The computer still gives code 12 so I don't think it's dead. We unplugged the tach wire from the coil just incase that thing shorting out behind the firewall was it. Still no spark.
