relocated my IAT

I just relocated my IAT sensor right below my air filter. I know its a free mod and it wont give me a noticable dif. but I am just wondering how much.

I also heard that relocating the IAT in a maf is very beneficial but in an SD setup it doesnt really do squat, how come?

Don't know about MAF but it does matter with SD. You can make adjustments in the Prom to account for the cooler air.

It's the other way around. It does squat for MAF (for fuel). Air temp is all handled by the MAF sensor NOT the IAT/MAT sensxor. But can cause problems with the how the EGR works (which is the only thing the IAT/MAT does on a MAF car). Generally, a relocated MAT causes the EGR to cease functioning much at certain air temps (when it would normally work). So for a MAF car, at BEST its a useless mod. At worst, it screws up the operation of the EGR.

On a SD car, you MUST recalibrate the eprom as a relocated MAT drastically affects the fuel tables. If you don't, you will run overly rich with a SD car.

So does this mean that I can eliminate the MAT on my MAF car since my EGR is removed anyway?

It is most likely going to throw a SES code. Could stick a 4.7K resistor into the connection and that would solve the problem since the 4.7K resistor equates to 52*F and within tolerance.

It will throw a SES but it won't affect the actual function of the injection........ just the egr......correct? Thanks,

When an SES code occurs, the ECM will normally go into "Safe Mode" (not limp mode as most assume). In Safe Mode, the ECM will ignore various sensor readings and use "override" values for a number of settings. Bottom line, the engine will run but not correctly.

If you have a bad MAT/IAT sensor on a MAF car, the best "quick fix" is to stick a 4.7K resistor in the connector.

Im still doing my lt1 stuff. I have a MAF set up and need to relocate this sensor. Is it better if I just stick the resistor thing in the connector? Or just relocate it? I dont have EGR..its disabled in the prom so thats no biggie.

I would just relocate it then use the rsistor.

All you do is stick a 4.7K resistor into the connector that you would normally plug the MAT/IAT sensor into. Then you can just leave it connected to the harness in the back of the firewall and shove it somewhere where it won't get burnt. No need to relocate, since you aren't using an IAT/MAT.

Ok dumb question... but where is the IAT... is it that sensor in the air intake... because i dont have it... there is a patch over where it is supposed to be... but i dont have it...the patch looks like its made of the same material as the air intake... i do have a MAF, one would thing with over 380 posts... i would of asked this question... i saw the sensor in a car that was at my work the other day... my car still runs fine... i dont know what happend... but i dont belive my car had one...

It's threaded into a hole in the bottom of the plenum on an 87.

Yes, you should be able to feel the wires and sensor on the bottom of the plenum near the driver's side rear.
