383 as a daily driver??

A friend of mine is taunting me with a rotating assembly to build a 383. I was wondering if it would make a fine daily driver of if it would burn too much gas. That stuff's getting expensive!! I plan on stroking to 383 with the kit he has and putting in a moderate cam and having the usual bolt-ons.

That would be fine as a daily driver as long as you get everything tuned right. Id go with FI and start burning proms and you'll be fine.

Good freind of mine has an S10 w/ a 383 that he drives everyday. Burns a hell of a lot of gas cause he's running carb...but it still runs alright as a daily driver. He's about to put FI on....so i'm sure it'll be great then.

your good

i have a 388 stroker with a custom computer done by Kevin L. if you know him, i got 26mpg on the freeway and about 18 around town. however that was with the tuned port set up. Now i have a stealth ram and i get much less miles per gallon but still not terrible. what im saying here is yes it will be worth it but you have to get the chip burned and it really just depends on what kind of intake your planning on running.

I forget who, but some guy on here was actually getting better gas mileage with his 406 than his 305. If your engine is not built for a ton of high end power, is geared correctly, and is fi, then you can get great mileage.

What are you getting (approximately) with the HSR 383 (mileage)?

GOT 18 MPG WITH 305 ON HIWAY (ALL STOCK) GET 20+ WITH 406. 406 HAS MILD CAM, BIGGER INJECTORS, REAR TIRES UP TO 255 FROM 245, AND STOCK CHIP FROM 305.

well its kinda trajic, but the kid who did all the body work to my car except the actually painting, is no longer with us, he died Sunday night in a wreck

and my body shop is doing the installation, the engine should be fully assemble by/around monday, then a few days to put it in, but may be a few longer then expected since the shop is short 1/3 of its crew, he didnt do the engine stuff, but they are still down a person.
