one quick stupid question

i have a quick question that may be stupid, but will not having a functional knock sensor make your car slower?

Yes. At times during driving the computer does a "self test" on the ESC system, if it fails, it reverts to a fail-safe timing scheme which basically removes the ********* from the car.

Depends on if you're knocking or not and how bad.

assuming you're not detonating and you're running a good timing curve no it shouldn't slow you down, its just a big engine damage risk.

The only time I have ever felt slowed down by it is when the car was hot, on a hot day and I hit the gas about half way off idle. One big spark knock and the car lost power so I crused on home and modified my fans.

If you're knocking yea you'll lose power, and heat will deffinatly help knock out.

Its a cheap enough part to keep your engine running that I would never run a car withotu one

Just don't under or over torque it. And watch for the coolant.
