New Engine Runability Problems - Help!!
I just put a new engine in and it seems to run like total garbage. Here is what I started with:
86 Camaro 305 TPI
Stock
Here is what I ended up with:
88 Camaro Engine (Roller)
86 Camaro TPI
Vortec Heads
Scoggin Dickey Intake
19lb Ford Motorsport Injectors
9.5:1 Compression Ratio
Roller Rockers
All New Sensors
Distributor and Coil out of an 88 (small cap)
Roller Rockers
Comp Cams 08-501-8 Cam Specs on cam:
Intake Exhaust
Gross Valve Lift 0.488 0.495
Duration At 0.006 Tappet Lift 264 269
When I first had it started it ran great!!! Then I checked to make sure that the timing was right and it was about 18 degrees advanced. The manual said that these are supposed to be set at 6 degrees so I changed it and it doesn't run well at all. Could this be because the distributor change. As I recall the HEI that came out of this still had some mechanical advance built into it. This new distributor doesn't.
Yes I know that part of my problem is that I am still running a stock 305 computer but I just wanted to make sure that I didn't shoot myself in the foot with any of my mods. Please help!!

I used a knock sensor out of an '88 350 (I remember reading that on this board awhile back!)
The duration is given at .060 and here it is:
Intake 264
Exhaust 269
Not to sound like an idiot but it's late and I can't think of what LSA stands for????
No, I didn't check to see if it advances with the light... I will check that tomorrow. Thanks!
