Benifits of porting LT1 intake?

Is it worth the time to polish the runners on the inside? I'm not lookin to pull the heads and port match them, just clean up the intake a little. Anyone done this or have pics of someone who did? Thanks in advance. :hail:

FB,

Porting is fine, but don't ever waste your time polishing the intake runners. There is no practical benefit from this, and it may be dedtrimental.

I had to port my LT1 intake to match the head ports/flow:

Vader,

How'd you match the intake to the heads? Did you use a gasket as a template?

S10,

When porting time rolls around, I tend to use up lots of old playing cards and Exacto knife blades making templates, gages, and masks. The gaskets are always a good guide, but I've found that saometimes the gaskets need a little trimming as well, so they aren't an absolute perfect fit.

I usually save the playing card gages just in case one of the porting jobs works out exceptionally well. It would make a nice permanent template.

Vader,
Do you think that my ZZ4 heads are that far off from the LT1 intake ports? The are the early corvette style w/ angle plugs.

It should be easy enough to measure and compare once the intake is off. At least intake removal on an LT1 is a little easier than a TPI.

You got that right. That was one of the reasons I didn't buy a Super Ram last year.

Thanks for all the help. :hail:
