Need QUICk answer, to settle curiosity before i got bed PLEASE!!!
Please, I'll sleep better if I find out this is the problem, I'll explain the stupidity behind the question later
But anyway....
if the IAT sensor was never plugged back in, could that cause the car to run COMPLETELY SH**Y as soon as it goes into closed loop?

I believe the system executes some sort of 'limp home' mode, so that the car doesnt get hurt and you can drive it around still. Least thats what I think.

no, wrong, if it is unplugged the computer will "see" that and either use a default value, or figure it from the ECT sensor at startup............it wont run ****ty, but the check engine light will be on
well, i took a stab at it.... anyway... i dont know... i dont have one at all.... it looks like the hole where it should go on the intake, its been patched, there are no wires or sensors... ive had the car since 87.... well my dad has... so my dad or me would know what happend..
If I remember correctly from a debate a long time ago, the IAT
serves no funtion really. The computer does not use it's input to
calculate anything. It needs to be hooked up to keep from
throwing a code but that's about it. I will look in the archives a bit
and try to find that thread.
