theory behin my slowness...you opinion on that :)

ok guys, let me start with the mods:

355sb
882 heads (9:1 cr? or around that)
edelbrock base
Slp runners
stock throtle body
24lb svo
fuel reg
TES headers/y pipe
3" pipe to flowmaster
no cat
3.23's

car is 85 iroc, with 870 ecm and hypertec 305 (yes 305) chip

now, I've tryed manythings to make it run fast to no avail, motor and (rebuilt) trans have about 40,000 on them.
best time was 14.6 at 94.7 mph with 2.1 60'
Had 3.73's, did same time
had 58mm tb, did same time (maybe 1mph slower)
try add substrac timing on dist, did the same

so far I run anywhere form 15.2 at 89 to 14.6 at 94, oh and that 14.6 was on stock TPI, slp runners and edelbrock base didn't do a thing....

my theory: I have a the peanut cam in the motor, why? because when my friend build the motor, he went to GM and asked for a TPI cam....I'd say looking at my mods I should be faster...and at the track I've seen 3 third gen doing 14.3-14.2 at 97 with stock motors (no headers and no runners upgrade). That's about the only plosible theory after everything I've tried except a compression check, since the motor isn't smoking and I've been driving the car since the engine had about 3k (when I bought the car from my friend)....I've tried everything that I can think of, and I don't belive the 305 chip is the main problem (especially on a MAF car)

any suporters of this new theory?

my next mod is going to be a ZZ4 cam....I'm not looking to be super fast, just want 13.8 and I'll go home happy

For one thing, get the right chip in there. Especially with the 24lb injectors. I'd look into a head upgrade. 882's arent' exactly the most hi-po heads.

I've seen where 882's flow numbers where higher than L98 stock vs stock....I'll belive the chip would help but not 4 mph, I'm talking cars running 97mph stock, not even headers....

chip wont help much on an 870 unless its one you burn yourself. The hypertech etc chips for the 870 are not much more than a little more timing.Ive done high 13's with a 305 chip in mine when I first put it together.

1. Get a chip(ed wright ) you are using a 305 chip which calls for 19lb/hr injectors. You have 24lb/hr on there now. It is probably running pig rich and really killing your time.

2.Those heads would be good on a carbed car. Although the flow numbers are sometimes better the port velocity is crap and with a long runner engine your definately losing some there.

3.At least get a 350 chip(22lb/hr), bump the timing up a few degrees, and lower you r fuel pressure 2 psi, that should somewhat compensate for the extra fuel.

4. You said it all with that cam, although IMO that isn't your bottle neck right now definately get a scan tool and look at the readings....
