Opening up the intake
Opening up the intake
I'm a newbie to the area of F-bodies. I'm really familiar with Mustangs though. anyway I'm looking for a way to open up the intake on a L98. but before I do it I want to make sure I'm doing stuff worth while.
what I'm looking at.
- Arizona Speed & Marine's Large Tube Runners
- Holley 52mm TB
- Larger MAF <------ where do you get those?
- Cold air intake <----- what kind is the best? is this something you do on a F-body?
the specs on the car (89 Formula) are 340tq and 240hp. I would like to get my BHP over 300. would that do it?
btw, I have a cross flow exhaust on the car now.
thanks for looking. hopefully those questions aren't dumb. guide me in the right direction.

good on the runners and u dont really need to play around with theTB... it can support up to 325hp i belive... if u have a dremmel or a die grinder u can open up the plenum and the intake base for the runners.. the runners are siammeised so ur gunna have to take a lot of material out for them.... u cant get a bigger MAF... u can try to go to Speed Density aka SD.... u dont need the MAF anymore... and if u want a CAI... so a search..poeple have made some some DIY CAI's and there amazing... very nice.. if u want an aftermarket one.. look at SLP... i dont know what they run for cost off the top of my head.... i have the book around here somewhere.... dunno.... but u should have a good start to a nice flowing engine... and thank you for choosing GM... f the stang...ur a born again GM man... on the exhaust... dunno what the hell that is.. cross flow? u mean like an H or X pipe? never ever saw that on a 3rd gen... Also i recomend gettin or making a AFPR.. u can pic up some more hp that way... good luck and kick *** ...
Crossflow is from Flowmaster.
Actually, I still drive a stang, my roomate just got the 89 Formula. but once I'm outa college, I'm ditching the stang. I've had enough of the Ford crap! I've always liked SS's and Ram Air's. man I can't wait to get one.
so no go on the TB and MAF.
actually I was looking at the SLP CAI, and the Ported runners, and then doing headers and all new pipe back to the flowmasters. so are you saying the runners on the car are just fine? or that is a good mod. they say it's proven for 30tq and 25hp. just wondering.

the whole intake of TPI is very restrictive.. the ASM runners are better then slp... from what i hear...i have never seen them... the slp runners need to opend up some more... get the asm runners, im sure ill have more people agree with me on that one... but if u wana make a ton of power... swap to a LT1 or mini ram or stealth ram.... there the power makers...
stealth ram sounds like what's gonna go on. that thing is cool. I didn't read about it.
couple questions:
is it street legal? <---- california emissions
do you use stock injectors?
where can I get more info on it?
I think I'm gonna do that, and then do the SLP CAI, then headers.

you can order it from WORLD DISCOUNTS in Buffalo, NY 800-288-6728 P/N SU-145.
also any parts store that carries Wells can order it. but it may cost more.
also, click on my webpage in my sig to see what i've done to my car and the dyno results. i am still using the stock MAF. nothing amazing there. but at least you can see what some parts do for increased power. the exhaust made the best improvement.
