Lt1 intake on a 305?
Just wondering if anyone is doing this, and how good it is working for them. I really dont plan on putting my intake on my 305, it will be reserved for the paper weigh of a 350 in my garage. seems like the 305 cant flow enough to need this intake to me.
Also, what kind of heads do you recomend on my motor. My setup so far is: 52mm TB, Hot cam, 1:6 rockers, AFPR, edelbrock headers, 3.73's with a 5 speed. dont really know what heads to go with. i was gonna do the vortec, scoggin dickey manifold swap, but after going on Johns website i have decided to go with the Lt1 intake (BTW:John, very good website
)
Thanks guys

f-crazy, good point. I dont really want to hear from someone who hasn't done it, but still has an opinion. You cant really generate an opinion if you havent done it! I was wondering because i am going to use the lt1 intake on my 350, but until i put the motor in my car why not slap the intake on the stock 305 if it will help it.
thanks for the post.

i've often wondered this and just took the general opinion of the crowd that it was too much for the 305 but never really knew. but since you already have the intake and plan on using it on the 350, why not try it out and add a second opinion to if it helps or not?

exactly why not use it?...whats the worst that would happen..youd have to take it off and put the tpi back on...
if u guys remember correctly..back in the earlly-mid 90's gm put out a 4.8 liter with a lt1 type intake on it...there "mini lt1" performed pretty well i think it was 230 horse and about 300 ft pounds...and it ran like a raped ape up to 6500
im goin this way...ya gotta keep up with lt1s on the freeway

I dont have the intake yet, i bought it, it is still in the mail. I think i will try it on the 305 though, since it will be a while till the 350 is done ($$$)
I'll let ya know how it turns out, but i would still like to hear from some more people who have done it
thanks guys

Watch out if doesn't fit. I bought mine from John and found out when I went to put it on it won't fit my heads. The water ports were sticking out past the lips of the intake. John didn't want to take it back even though it was still basically "new". He wanted to charge me a %25 restocking fee which is BS if you ask me. I hope it works out for you though...

I didnt buy mine from john anyway, i got it from ebay (and the guy ripped me on shipping) so im doing the work on it, hope i dont screw it up

All that makes it tougher to sell. How long must I wait till a customer comes along with the same request? In other words, I'd be stuck with it.

hey john, as long as i have you here. have you had many guys putting this intake on 305's? and have you had any issues with the motors running hot since you dont have a regular sized upper radiator hose coming off the intake? im kind of worried that those two heater hoses to the remote thermostat wont flow enough to cool my motor in the summer.
(and i dont disagree with your restocking fee)

The 3/4" hoses won't make you run hot. They are not smaller the TPI coolant lines either. I simply duplicated the TPI coolant routing, I did lengthing it though.
The water ports out of each head aren't much bigger then 3/4" in most cases. They in turn went directly to the thermostat then back to the radiator via the upper radiator hose.
I just lengthened the routing to a remote t-stat and it in turn returns to the radiator through a stock (cut) upper hose.

i would think that it would take longer for the thermostat to open though since before it does no coolant is circulating to the thermostat. the coolant in those hoses would take longer to come to temp. ?? any problems with that?

I say GO FOR IT! I'm a big fan of the 305 despite what others say. I think it would be a good match for the 305. They like to rev anyways. At least my old internally stock one did.... in front of my 6-spd that is! Good luck!
