Need help picking a TPI cam

I am looking for recommendations for a cam for a 350 I'm building (TPI). I'm going hydraulic flat tappet 'cause it's an older 2-piece rear main. I'm using a set of ported L98 iron heads matched to a Felpro 1206 intake gasket and an Accel intake maniflod ported to that gasket also. I also have 24# injectors and AFPR. I am expecting to get shorty headers and eventually aftermarket runners, too. Comp cams recommended part number 12-262-4 which, I'm guessing is an Xtreme Energy 262 cam. (Grind number CS XE262H-14)

Specs are:
Gross valve lift I-.464 E-.470
Duration I-262 E-270
Duration @.05 I-218 E-224
Lobe Separation 114*

My brother used a cam they recommended and was really disappointed with it and said I should take their recommendation and buy the next bigger one. Any thoughts???

You mean its an older 2-piece rear main seal, right?

And you're gonna need a custom chip for that cam and the injectors as well, dont forget that.

I'd say that cam is fine for your mods. Any bigger and everything starts to be a restriction.

Yea, 2-piece rear main (ok, I edited my post to now say 2 piece). And yes I will be needing a custom prom. Thanks for your input.

That Comp Xtreme is a roller right? He is looking for a hydraulic flat tappet.

Iceman,

You would be happy with that cam im preety sure. I had a smaller cam 216 @ .050 lift 454 lift 110 lsa. It was installed with the new short block. It made tons of torque from idle to 5500. I had AFR heads/Superram/headers etc. I went low 13's all day on street tires. On the street, It would breaak em loose any time I punched it when it kicked in to 1st.

More is not better on a TPI when it comes to cams esp when you have a stock TPI. If you want another opinion call TPIS or Lingenfelter. Calling Copms was a good move.
