Your opinions on a Cam

Hey,
A friend of mine is looking to get rid of a cam. The cam is a Comp Cams 264HR-12. It's not one of thier Extreme Energy cams. I think it's just a regular Computer cam. I kinda like it cause you can run it with the stock heads since the lift isn't that high. I was wondering how yall thought it might perform. It's number is 08-302-8 and the specs are..

Valve Lift
Intake 0.48
Exhaust 0.48

Duration At 0.006 Tappet Lift
Intake 264
Exhaust 274

Valve Timing At 0.05
Open Close
Intake -3 33
Exhaust 46 -6

These Specs Are For The Cam Installed At 108 Intake CL
Duration At 0.05
Intake 210
Exhaust 220

Lobe Separation 112

all that can better be seen here http://www.compcams.com/information/...umber=08-302-8

I already have headers, cat back, and "ram air mod". I'm soon going to get some SLP runners, port my intake base, and port my heads.

Thanks!
David

Comp cam

That is either the same cam I've got or at least very close specs. I was told it was made to go with a stock computer. It will run okay but for the optimium I think you will find you'll have to reprogram.

It's a great cam for a daily driver. It provides excellent low end torque and throttle response. I agree with Kendall, it you want to get the most out of it, you should have a custom eprom burned. I reccomend a good set of headers and free flowing exhaust and low restriction intake too. It would be very cost effective and well worth the extra time to put a set of aftermarket valve springs in. The LT4 springs are perfect for that cam and are only $26 from Pace Performance warehouse.

Thanks for the replies. I'm hoping to get into chip burning sometime soon. I know that it can greatly aid mods. I just want to make sure I won't be wasting my time putting the cam in. I don't want to spend the time to put it in and gain only a little bit more power, when I could have saved up some more money and put a better cam in.
