Is my timing light lying to me?

I replaced my reluctor recently cause it was cracked, and caused an intermittent miss on # 3. The car would also 'jerk' as it would miss. The car was smooth as silk after this. Well the car is jerky again so I check the timing, and find an intermittent miss on every wire I put it on, except the coil wire. New: reluctor, pickup coil, cap, rotor, wires.
Any ideas?

I had the same problem once, it turned out to be the plugs! I know, you are probably like me and thought that there was no way plugs could make it run like that, in fact I put a brand new MSD distributer in and it still ran like that, no matter what wire I pu my timing light on, they'd all miss, also check out your module, that will cause the same thing

Well my timing light was not working at all today, so I took apart the pickup section. I guess it was lying to me... the magnet was all busted up as if someone had dropped it. Maybe I should store important tools that look like a gun in a place other than the wreckroom!

I'd deffinitly buy new plugs first and check those out then if it's still running like that, now that you know that they may be firing, just not very well, or if the plug is actually firing at all. Start with the cheap stuff first! If you do replace the module, buy an aftermarket one like the one offered by holley, almost the same price as a stock replacement, and they are less prone to heat which is what kills the module in the first place. By the way, I live in the Tuxedo area of Winnipeg. What area are you from?
