First off everyone here is going to say dont bother with the 305 because there is no replacement for displacement. I now have to agree with these people. I have a 305 in my car now that with a few mods runs in the mid to low 14's no problem. I have now ditched the idea of building it up for a 355 so now I am buying parts that will swap over. So with that said if you plan on doing a motor swap I would say buy parts that are going to work on a 350 like headers, cat, cat-back system (3"). Then like stated above new igition system (coil, plugs, wires, cap/rotor, MSD box), if you feel like it gut your MAF (some say it does nothing though), you can do an AFPR, airfoil, and then I would personally dive into the suspension. STB, SFC, LCA's, Panhard Rod, Torque arm, that way when you do get the power you will actually be able to use it and not just go up in smoke.
As far as relocating the battery, dont. It is going to do nothing for you but cause headaches unless you are going to be doing nothing but dragracing. But that is just my opinion. Good luck and happy motoring.

Yeah. If u plan on adding a new engine dont bother wasting money. I have a 1985 IROC with a 305 TPI that I am gonna be moding this winter while its in storage. I am going to be getting a 355 or 383 built so Im not gonna waste to much money on the engine, Just get bolt ons and other stuff that u can transfered over. U can get a quick TPI with Headers, Catback, K&N filters along with the gutted MAF and the free mods. Then add on some suspension stuff, and a better Torque converter. Thats should get u to where ur happy.
I have heard about some guys putting the LT1 cam into there 305 TPIs and getting some good results, U can get them used for around $50 bucks. I am pondering this idea, I might go ahead and do it but I havnt heard to much, Im trying to get more info on the topic.
Also look around at other guys cars on here and take a look at what mods they have done to there 305s. Some guys pull some inpressive times with them.
Good luck.

Well, like I said in my TPI post, does anyone know the TPS voltage for an '85 Z-28 TPI? I'm stuck with the 305 at least for a while. Thanks, Randy
