High Idle

Lately when I've started the car, I've noticed it's been idleing a tad over 1000 (because when I put it in reverse I have to hold the brake harder than normal).

After I start driving and I get to a light or something where the car idles, it's back to 500-700 range. Is this normal?

Is this just the computer warming up the engine or something else?
