Those with Minirams, come on in! please

I am having trouble mounting my alternator bracket with the miniram. It is an 86 camaro with the v-belt system and the miniram is the 3rd one if it matters. It fits the fastburn heads ,don't know if they were designed differently on the outside. I'll call up TPIS too and see what they recommend. Could i go to a carb bracket? Should i cut it where it should bolt onto the manifold? Will it be too weak then? The problem is that it will just not bolt up to anything on the manifold, plus if it does, it will block the TPS. Please, any help would be great. Its getting colder and colder and i just want my car back already! Thanks for your time-Bryan

If I remeber correctly I just cut up that bracket where it mounted to manifold. It looked weak at first, but it holds its own. It was on these boards that someone posted pictures of what to do and where to cut. Do a search and you might find what you are looking for. Sorry I couldnt be of more help, but at least you know to cut.

Hey thanks Joe. So the bracket held up alright i am guessing? Our only concern is that once we tighten the belts down and start the car, there will be too much force and the bracket will break off and cause damage. I wanted to post first before i cut anything b/c at this point i just don't feel like buying more parts than i have too! I am going to call up TPIS now and see what they say too. Thanks for the help, and i'll try a search again and keep my eyes wide open. Thanks-Bryan

Bracket is more than fine in my car, I really wish I could tell you were I got my info from. It was from this board and posted by a guy that has a web page with a lot of miniram installation tips and tricks. Im thinking the material was on the boards about 1 1/2 years ago or so. Good luck with that set-up and let us know how things are going with it.

Thanks Joe! So i am guessing your 87 did not have the bracket that bolted onto the stock tpi manifold, huh!? As soon as i told the guy my problem over at TPIS, he said, "its an 86?". So i am guessing this is the only year, possibly 85 too, with this type of bracket. I'll just go ahead and cut it, sand it and paint it. We'll see what happens! I'll update once she's on her way to the road. Thanks for the help-Bryan

I lent my MiniRam to Mike Davis and we ran into this problem also. Here are some photos for you ...

Mine is an 87, but I have the same bracket. I didnt think they changed this till 89 when they went to the serp set-up. That was the site that I was thinking about, but couldnt find it anywhere. I just looked at those pics and cut. Sanded it, and painted it, and havent had any problems what so ever in over a year. The support from manifold isnt necessary, but you will see this when you cut and chuck on. Good luck with the swap, the miniram is killer.
