Starter problems

Hey guys, I have a problem with my 88 GTA starting.
I stopped by a friends house after work and when I got ready to leave the car would not do anything when you turn the key.
It has a new battery so I know that is not the problem.
You can jump the selonoid and the car turns over fine and starts with no problem. I also replaced the starter and selonoid and tried a new key thinking maybe the chip was bad but nothing changed.
Any suggestions on what to try next?javascript:smilie('')

Thanks

Did you try asking in another forum other than
TPI?

Get a Helms manual and go thru the
wiring from ignition to solenoid... Make sure all
the battery & starter cable connections are
clean and tight.. Check the fusable links..

You also may have a bad igntion key. Your car has the VATS (Vehicle Anti-Theft System) thes keys do get worn in time and can loose contact, causing small starting problems at first that turn into... my darn car won't start period anymore. My bet is the key. The little resistor is probably wearin gout on you. It's worth a look anyway before you go buying parts you don't need. I have seen this problem many times in my day. Confuses alot of people to, so don't be suprised when you find that this may be your problem. HTH

My Z is fine when cold but when at operating temp
it won't start,unless I let it sit for a while.It does the
same with my new key, also I replaced the vats module
last year.I don't drive it much so I havn't looked into
the problem like I should have.I was going to just put
in a new starter. But I'd like to fix the problem.
Thanks to all who try to help.

I thought about the key also.
That was the first thing I tried but it makes no difference.
So far I have tried a new key, new starter, new selonoid, and new battery with no changes.
For the time being I have a starter button wired to the selonoid and it starts just fine that way but I would like to fix this problem.

Thanks for the help
