Are LB9 and LO3 heads the same? and stats for both please.

Are the LO3 heads the same as the LB9 heads. I am wandering because my friend has an LO3(throttle body 305) and I was basically junking my LB9(tuned port 305) well my bottom end is toast on mine, so I was wondering if mine flowed any better than his LO3 heads, if they did, I was going to just give them to him. Is there anything physically different? Like bolt holes in different places or anything? What about porting them?

Does anyone have any type of numbers on these 2 heads, or even these heads but ported, any help would be greatly appreaciated.

The L03s were centerbolt heads. I *thought* they were the same heads, but I'm not sure. I was under the impression that they used the same heads, but the L03 had much more restrictive exhaust manifolds and y-pipe.

The L03 heads a centerbolt as well, but they are different from the LB9 heads. They're called swirl port heads, they have a vain in the intake port to cause a swirling effect with the intake charge. It causes an increase in low end power but the restriction kills the high end. Good for work trucks, bad for performance cars.

So would it be worth it to port mine and let him have them, mine are perimeter, and his are centerbolts, but he can just have the covers too. Is the covers the only thing he would need? to use the perimeter style?

Here is the thing, We both have a mutual friend that has a Grand Prix GT. Well the Grand Prix can bearly take him in the quarter, so we are trying everything possibe to get My friend's camaro faster. He already has an open element intake, The Exhaust from my Iroc on it, 3.23 with a blown posi unit, from my 86 IROC, new plugs and wires, it runs really well, but the 195hp from that Grand Prix just bearly edges him out. but down low, the Camaro still take the victory.

Thanks agian for all of your guy's help.

Heads

Your 86 perimeter heads are for flat tappet cams. Not roller. If you pal has the center bolt heads they are designed for roller cams. To use your heads, he would have to use a different cam, lifters, pushrods, etc. (I have an 86 IROC too, and I wish it was a newer car with the roller setup.)

think about what you just said, i'm pretty sure it doesnt make sense..................

if personX has a car with roller motor
and personY has a car with perimeter style heads......

personX should already have the cam, lifters, pushrods, etc. because they have a roller motor

personY just needs to give personX the heads

so they can infact use the 86 style LB9 heads (which are more performance oriented than the L03 swirl/garbage-port heads)

just check the LB9 heads first to make sure they are in proper working order

Yeah there is no reason you cannot use Perimiter bolt Heads with a Roller cam, lol.
