What Next?

Alright, here goes. I have an 87 GTA 5.7L TPI. I have the TPI off waiting for a Superram to arrive. I also have SLP runners, ported/siamesed plenum, cold air, and airfoil. What I'd like to knowis what is the next upgrade that is usually done after this. While I have everything apart, I want to put in a cam and some roller rockers. Does this sound like a good plan? While I have the heads off, I'll get them ported some and polished. I see alot of people talking about a "219" cam. Well, I am cam illiterate. I wouldn't know a cam grind from a coffee grind. Everything except the above mentioned is stock. So would this 219 cam work for me? I've seen some guys on here say this is to mild for them, but I want to keep a good idle and so on. And I've heard differing opinions on 1.5 and 1.6 rockers, which would anyone recommend? If anyone here can offer some advice or opinions, I would be in your debt.:hail:

Sounds like you have a fairly good plan. Have you considered a 52mm TB or a good cat-back? I see you have the muffler but the pipe is very restrictive also.

I forgot to mention, when I place my order for my next parts, a catback is on top of the list. I was thinking about a 52mm but then I started reading the posts here and the consensus is they are not really helpful unless your pulling some serious power Thanks for your reply.

I wish I had the means to buy a super ram.. 4 kids mortgage..ect...You are on the right track though. Next should be a cam and the roller rockers as you said. I agree with with DannyT with what he says. A better set of heads will make a big difference. I would seriously consider a set or gears. (if 1/4 is your thing) Gears is where it is at if you want ets. All I can say is I wish I was in your shoes asking that question..... I am broke trailer trash!!LMAO

Some people say alot of things without ever trying them. I am adding a 58mm TB soon but I have a 383 with heads and cam. I will probably add the super ram plenum and runners at the same time. You will not LOSE performance with a 52mm TB with your setup.

Yeah Jerry, I know about the mortgage thing too. No kids though, yet. Just me, the mrs. and our Shih Tzu Mollie. I've never been on a drag strip, but maybe when I'm all done I'd like to give it a spin. So, gears aren't my #1 priority right now. I emailed summit for a cam & rocker recommendation, but I haven't heard back from them. So I was hoping someone here could give me some different cams to look over.

Hey Danny. Do you know anything about the 52mm the guy always has on ebay, the one that is a bored out stock unit. I keep watching them and it seems like they keep going for less from when I first started watching them. I think the last one went for about $140-$150. If I can get one for between $130-$140 I'll ****** it up.Thanks for the replies

The last one I was watching was a used BBK 52mm TB that sold for $215 or something like that. This one on eBay is modded like many companies do but WITHOUT the core charge. I would keep an eye on this one if I were you since there is no reserve. I would max my bid at no more than about $150 (wait til last day of auction though). I bought my used Accel 58mm TB for $325 on eBay and they are $569 new.
