need help on intake design
okay this may sound like another stupid post but I really need some help here.
Does anyone know if accel intakes ever looked different than they do now ?
I´m asking this because the guy who sold me his accel runners insists that this base shown here is an accel intake.
I told him that it is a stock TPI base but he keeps insisting that it is aftermarket and he even says he has the bill to prove it.
Does any of you know ever intake designs ever changed over years ?

If it is a factory piece it will have a casting number that will resemble a GM part number. It will be anywhere from 6 digits to eight digits but no more than eight and NO GM NUMBERS HAVE LETTERS IN THEM!
If it has a GM number, then I would say its a GM factory intake. If it is an Accel base than it will probably be cast with the ACCEL logo on it in a visible location.
It sure looks factory from what I can see.
My .02 Good Luck!

That guy is either full of sh*t or doesn't really know what he's talking about....that is a stock base.
I've had my Accel base since 1995, they have not been cast different since and surely doesn't look like the one you got.
As mentioned above, ACCEL would be cast on top near the EGR. Also the runner castings on top of the ACCEL base (or any aftermarket base) would not be visible. It's smoothed out on top...I'm not sure if that makes sense to you but here's a pic of the Accel base and you should be able to see the difference...HTHs

Also forgot to add...the Accel base has another EGR port on the right rear near the distributor hole to accommodate Corvette applications. Otherwise it'll have a block off plate on it.
You can be 200% sure that is NOT an Accel base.

He was probably a sucker on ebay that bought one. He is probably trying to dump it off on you, be careful out there!!!
Unless Accel signed a deal with GM (they didn't), then it could possibly be Accel (but it wouldn't be aftermarket).
