bad smell from Iroc!!!

I have a new motor with about 3000 miles on it.... Since day one I remembered I get this bad, almost rotten egg smell when I give the car some gas when she's still a cold.

What could cause such rotten smelling exhaust fumes????

I have no SES lights or anything, but I did fail emissions testing in

the NOx catagory by like .2 Possible Egr malfunction????

I did not change the Egr when i put the motor in but i did put on a new catalytic converter from T.P.I.S Specialties, which states 'car must be correctly tuned to pass emissions with this converter'.

Could this converter be the why i get this bad smell and cant pass emissions????

new cat?

did you by any chance install a new cat, when you had your engine installed ? I have heard that those can smell like rotten egg when new? I think it may have to do with burning the paint of even a left over sticker on one of the exhaust pipings.

Overly Rich Exhaust and High Temperature

Your CAT is running at its peak Duty. Your exhauts is going to be Extremely Rich and running Way to HOT . Your combustion chamber temperatures are probably way too high due to Severly Retarded Ignition timing or high degree Carbon.. or your engine is running with high compression and an overly Lean Condition causing down-pipe temperatures to exceed maximum operating range.. Your Going to Burn the Cat out premature in any case.. the roughten exhaust is the cat platinum coated ceramic excellerating an already hot mixture of air and unburnt fuel vapour. Depending on whats your particular situation I would rectify that immediately or get rid of the cat and find a way to defeat the Polution requirements...
