Do SLP runners fit w/o problems????help!!

I really want to get a set of SLP runners, the problem is I heard they do not fit properly somtimes(something about machining).
My base is stock TPI.I realize this may be posted already, but I can't find the info I am looking for(so many posts on this website).
Anyway, any info on personal experience would really be appreciated. Thanks!!:hail:

They should bolt on with no problems. What you might be thinking about is people saying they need to be cleaned up and port matched to really be useful. As cast, SLP runners are pretty poor. Port alignment can be pretty off, and the top siamesed section is a joke as well. Nothing that can't be fixed with a grinder and a few hours though.
Off the top of my head i can't remember what size they open up to at the bottom, but there is a chance that they are bigger than the stock base opening. If so, you really want to tae the base off and open that up to match as well. Otherwise you'll have a lip going from the runners into the base, completely killing any flow advantage they may have had.

ED, thanks for the info, I was having second thoughts on buying them, but if it's only porting, it's easy:lala:

The only problem i had as far as installing goes was one of the bolt holes wasn't properly lined up with one of the base bolt holes, but not by much. it seemed like the angle was off by about a degree or two, so when the bolt was trying to go in, it was interfering with the runner flange bolt hole a little, but enough that it wouldn't go in. So i a 5/8 drill bit (i think that was the size) and just bored the hole a little bit more for a perfect fit. Now i also have an aftermarket base, so that might also have been the problem, but just a little patience and time, and it worked out great. oh, also, you'll have to remove your fuel rail, but not by much, just enough so the injectors are out of the injector bosses. they'll have that in the install directions. thats the only problems i had as far as install goes. Have fun and enjoy!!

With my accel base, I found that the machined area on the accel was not large enough for the SLP runners to sit flush around the ports. 5 minutes with a dremmel cured that.

the only problem I had when I installed mine was the bolt boss at the foreward end had to be ground down a little (1/16" or less) to get them in place with the fuel rails installed.

Well, I have a healthy 350 in my car now (352 hp, 407 ft/lbs tq) so it definately benifited from the bigger runners.

I didn't notice any difference in power untill I siamesed my base too. but I'm not running better et's though :-( the whole powerband moved up though. so I guess thats good, all that work though killed my low end torque so be careful if you do runners and base porting.

Like he said, a little dremel work here and there to make sure things clear ( and the porting).

Picked up 2mph in the 1/4 after adding the runners and porting the plenum.

Sure SLP Runners are great, but Ethiopian Runners are the best.

Ever notice that they always win all the Marathons ?

I think the SLP runners may cause your plenum to sit a bit lower, so if you've got an aftermarket fpr you may have to grind a bit off of the bottom of the plenum to get all of the runner bolts through the top. At least I had to. Never heard of anyone else having to do this yet, though.

I know exactly what you mean about the fpr!! Mine is from crane, and even wt the stock runners, it was a close fit. Thanks for the reminder!!

You would think for the money they charge for those things, they would fit without any modifications. I have also heard though they look great, they don't do much.

The problems start when you try to mate an aftermarket product from company A to an aftermarket product from company B. Each may work fine with the stock counterpart, and works fine with the same company's product, but when you mix aftermarket brands there's no telling what's going to happen. As soon as you start assembling an induction system from all aftermarket stuff, you learn VERY quickly that nothing works together and the guy at the hardware store will start laughing somewhere around the 4th or 5th trip for bolts.

I second checking the bolt hole alignment to the intake, u may have to open the bolts holes up slighltly on the runners to make them fit nicely i had that problem. takes about 5 secs to fix with dremel or die grinder

also as far as afpr's go the only ones i have seen dificulties with have been the older crane version(which i have) and u either get a shorrter bolt for it or cut it shorter and chase the threads, crane is awarte of this and supposedly fixed the bolt length issue but i dont know for sure,,,,,,out of 3 diff makes i know of on friedns cars my crane was the only problem..

later

I'm glad that someone still has a sense of humor. That's really Ed Maher, right?
