code 42
keep getting that annoying code 42. it is only on sometimes when i start the car. other times it isnt. and if it is on then i turn the car off and turn the car back on then sometimes it turns off but sometimes not. there is a new ignition module..but maybe its bad i dunno....any help is awsome....thanks
Stroked,
Make sure the connections at the HEI switching module are tight, and that the wiring harness at the distributor is not damaged or grounded. The '42' is for a grounded EST circuit, so either the module iteself is bad or failing, or you have an intermittent wiring ground/connection.
You should also check the harness back toward the ECM, paying attention to any problems with the tan/black wire or plain white wire from the distributor.
It's also a remote possibility that the connections are reversed at the 'E' and 'C' terminals on the HEI module (the small connector).

are the E and C terminals just the clips to the module-- and if they were on backwards would the car still run normal sometimes?

speed sensor
in my 88 gta my speed sensor plug had disconnected and caused a code 42 and also a 24 for the speed sensor
once i plugged the the connector back into the speed sensor both codes never came up again, doesnt seem like thats your problem since you dont have the code 24 but maybe something to look into
