Starting when cold?

I have an 88 GTA with the 350 TPI. When I first go out in the morning and crank my engine, it will crank for a couple seconds maybe three before it starts. I usually have to tap the gas once and then it runs fine. If I don't tap the gas, it will die, but if I restart it again without tapping the gas, it stays running and doesn't die. Also, I usually let it warm up a bit, but if I don't because I'm running late (every day), it hesitates and feels like it's bogging down for a second or two when I hit the gas to go. I always take it really easy wen it's cold. After I've driven half a mile or so, it's fine. When the engine is warm, it runs and starts up great. Is this normal? Sometimes when it's warm, it will still take a couple seconds to turn over. Is this normal? I drove a Cadillac before this and it turns right over. Thanks for any info! Matt

Since your car is an 88 it has the Cold Start Valve which help the car to start in sub 40 degree temps. Try checking that out, that might be the cause of your problems. Hopefully someone else can provide you with details on how to check if its working properly since I am not sure myself. good luck with it
