K&N Universal TPI filter questions
K&N Universal TPI filter questions
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here it is: I'm wanting to slap a cone filter on the end of the throttle body and ditch the stock air duct and filter. I know that by doing this you would be pulling in hot air from the engine bay, but I have a '97 replica ram-air hood and I was thinking about cutting out the back side of the hood where the nostrils are to let cool air in. My question is this: has anyone done this?? Is it dangerous as far as rain goes?? I'm sure it would have to flow a lot better than the stock set-up and it's much cheaper than an aftermarket cold-air kit. What do you think? Worth it?? Thanks!

If it's a daily driver this would be a very bad idea. Even if you lucked out and didn't ruin fan motors or sensors form the extra water coming in, it would still make the entire engine absolutely filthy.
I thought the same people that made the hood also sold an airbox/filter kit for making it functional. Spend the extra few bucks to do it the right way. Hell, you could probablu make one yourself if you check out junkyards and look for a suitable donor filter box that takes a flat filter.

yeah i have heard just putting the cone filter on the end of the tb kinda sucks up the warm engine air.
i rather have something like an slp cold air, less prone to be letting in water and sucking it into the engine.
