Will killing the power often damage the TPI?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but I´ve heard that the TPI (in conjunction with the onboard computer) "learns" the optimum mixture settings while driving and then stores them in memory but that that information is lost every time you cut the battery power?

I only drive my T/A once a week or so (and never in winter) so I tend to cut power to save the battery (something is draining it and I haven´t found out what yet...and the car is too far away to haul it back and forth).

So, is cutting the power often ponentially harmful?

Our cars are relatively dumb. They are nowhere as smart as the brainiac LSx computers. Last year I watched a Z06 that was really rich lean itself out on a dynojet after 5 runs. Every pull the A/F curve got flatter and closer to 12.5. It was amazing.

So I can keep cutting the power without worry?

It won't hurt a thing, and will probably be better for your battery in the long run anyway.

yea, if u cut the power, our computer "resets" and has to learn all its info again.. i just let it idle for 10 mins and usually im good to go.

Ok,

lets say you just re connected the power to the ecm, it's a cleans late and is ready to learn everything over again. The car will not run anywhere near optimal, it will have to re learnt he fuel stuff, and will be a bit sluggish, after driving it a few miles it will re learn eveyrhting and then be once again optinal.

so everytime you reset it it does not hurt the ecm, but performance is temporaraly lowered. that's why I don't think its a good idea for prom burners to experiment by swapping chips after every run at a track, because you dont get optimal performance, it has to re learn everything, see what i mean?

well, that for MAF, SD resets itself every time you turn off the car if im not mistaken.

Well, I really haven´t noticed any drop in performance and I don´t stress the engine until its good and warm anyway.

Then again, I don´t go racing every time I drive the thing so a little performance loss isn´t gonna bother me!

I think that I´d best keep an eye on the plugs, though. If it isn´t running at optimum a lot then they could get fouled, I would assume.

Wide Open Throttle is where the tuning of the chip is optimized...all that computer learning $!^ goes out the window.

I was doing the same thing last year. Didn't affect anything adversely.

Yeah, the only stuff the ECM learns is pretty trivial really. Just some IAC movement stuff along with the BLMs. No big deal.
