Fuel pump options
Fuel pump options
My coworker has an 85 IROC with the 305 TPI engine, and has run the car dry AGAIN, ruining the fuel pump which is only 6 months old. I do not want to replace this thing again.
I was considering installing an external pump, and deleting the intank unit. I have a few questions:
1. Can I leave the old intank inoperative pump in? Or does it have to come out?
2. This should be pretty straightforward right? Can I reuse the stock pickup assembly? Or would I have to drop in a carbed unit?
3. What pump is best suited for this? He doesn't want a lot of pump whine.
I'm sure someone else has done this. Pics? Any info is much appreciated. I don't want to drop this tank a 3rd time

You will have to get that f***ed pump outa there. then if you think hes gonna do this again you can put it back together with a fuel line goin to the bottom of the tank where the fuel pump would have been mounted and put an in line pump on the line after it leaves the tank but before it gets to the filter. You will probably hear this kind alot more so more wine with inline pump and less whine with intank. you best slap that mo fo three times is unacceptable.\
LOL
LOL What's even worse is that the first time his dad bought an aftermarket "KEM" pump AGAINST my advisings. He now refuses to buy the GM pump and keep getting the parts warranty on the aftermarket pumps!
