code 24 is VSS signal loss....

On cable driven speedo's, I'm pretty sure the VSS is attached to the back of the speedometer.

on elec. speedo cars ( anything 87 and newer) the VSS is on the tranny tailshaft. Drivers side. It's a two wire plug on electronic speedos.

I've gotten that code one time, but it left once I cleared the computer. I gave it a little bit of gas one time, alright my whole foot, and in the tire spin sent the needle flying. Clear the codes before you spend some cash and see if it comes back.

I haven't seen my code in almost a year and a half.

Camaros used a mechanical speedo until 1990. On firebirds it varied depending on model.
