what are the odds of a cracked block?

Here's the story:

Took my car out for a drive last week and overheated the motor. Lower radiator hose came off and I didn't realize I had lost all of my coolant. I towed the car home to avoid too much damage. Got home, put some coolant in it and it blew white somke. I pulled the heads and sure enough, there was evidence of coolant in the chambers and between the ports on the head gasket. I had the heads pressure tested ( aluminum L98) and trued. They had warped from the heat. There was definately water getting through here so I thought that was my problem. I got it all put back together about an hour ago and it's the same deal. TONS of white smoke. My question is what are the odds of a crack in the block? Does it happen often and when it does, are the cracks big enough to push this much water through? Water is literally dripping from the tail pipes! Any help or input would be greatly appreciated.

Time to buy a Honda

Hey what's up man?

Run the car for about 20 minutes and see if it clears up. Seriously.

After I changed the head gaskets and reassembled the motor in my old Tbird that blew a head gasket (Odds are anyone who has a ford 3.8L knows this too well) it smoked for a good 15-20 minutes after I put it all back together, and has not smoked sience. It just needed to clear some crapola out of there. (I also did have the heads redone as well)

On another note, I saw your car when you broke down, I was getting on RT100 heading to a call for work. (you were about 500 yards away on the other side of 170 is it?) I stopped and tried to figure out if it was you, but I didn't know you had T/A fenders and your spoiler was black the last time I saw it, plus the car had mismatched wheels and such. I didn't see anyone around the car, so I left the rampside thinking that could not have been your car. I don't suppose you noticed a later red thunderbird stop on the on ramp, eh?

Slim to none.

My money is on the deck of the block not being flat. That, or the heads are leaking from cracks.

Yeah, that's a good possibility, but I wanted him to try to run it for a while before he assumed it was trash. The motor I did smoked like a cheap cigar for about 15-20 minutes after reassembly, then never had another problem as far as that goes. (Another 20k miles onto that motor before it started knocking and I trashed it.) I about had a heart attack when I restarted it and it smoked for another 15 minutes, I thought that I either missed something or the heads were cracked/heavily warped. Worth a shot IMHO.

Hey Eric. Someone else told me to run it for a while. I came home last night and I'll be darned if it didn't quit smoking after about 20 minutes! Yeah, that was me on the side of 170 right near 100. Thanx for stopping! I sat there in the travel lane for a half hour before someone would let me use their cell phone . I finally got ahold of the shop and a ride home. No fun being broke down there in the rain
