305 TPI setup onto a 355, how can I avoid HP loss?
I've got a 305 TPI in my car right now. I have a 355 and Vortec Heads ready to go. Unless I am convinced otherwise I'm going to carb it.
Is there any difference from a 305 TPI to a 350TPI? Did GM do anything to the 350 TPI that made it better?
I don't want 250HP and 400lbs of torque, the TPI makes great low end power, but I don't want my 355 to have the same problems my 305 has, that is, no power left past 3500RPM.
I know for 400$ there is an intake that would fit vortec heads for TPI.
What has to be done to a TPI to allow it to flow well enough to make power to 5000RPM? I'd love to keep the driveability of EFI but not if I'm going to lose HP. MPG is also another factor, but again, I'll take 14MPG compared to 18 with a TPI if I'm going to get choked out of HP.
I'm aiming to get 325RWHP from my build. However, as I told the guys who are helping me do the build, I am going to "build" the engine for all the HP I can possiblely muster out of the block.
If it's not going to be cost effective to keep TPI and not get choked out of HP just tell me now.
If it is possible what is a list that will get me there, 2500$ to get the TPI running is possible, it has to be someone practical in cost.

If you your goal is maximum HP, have you considered a converted single plane setup? You could sell your TPI manifold and such and put that towards the cost. I would be willing to bet you may even find one used. My only other ideas would be stealth ram or mini ram, but the vortec heads and your not wanting to spend a ton may limit things a bit. Good luck.

If you have the complete setup then the only difference is the injectors.
350 = 22lb injectors
305 = 19lb injectors
For $2500 you could get a used SuperRam setup and rev til 5500-6000 RPMs. With the stock TPI you will need to shift at 5k RPMs regardless what motor you have.

Get aftermarket runners and a Scoggin-Dickey base plate for like $700. Will support 325 rwhp, costs much less. The injectors will work for the most part, just crank up the fuel pressure (50 psi or so).
