VATS - does this go here?
VATS - does this go here?
My starting problem has not improved, I replaced the entire distributor as mine was screwed up anyway, in an effort to replace the module. Apparently there was a lot of crud built up around the rim of the shaft, and when I inserted the new one it didn't just slide in. It is in now, but wont turn to adjust so my timing is set at 4degrees. But it now runs again, but still only wants to start once, after which time if you shut it off, it wont restart until approximately the next day.
Could this be a VATS related problem, does the security light flash a few times if the system is operating and preventing the car from starting? In my car the security light just lights momentarily, then shuts off.
Could this be a computer problem, as in I need to replace the entire ECM? Is there a fairly cheap diagnostic tool which will tell me what is the problem?
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

I have also noticed a couple of wires have been spliced back together with plastic tube crimpers, and the plastic portion is burnt on both pieces. I guess I will reattach these wires, maybe even solder and heat shrink em. I have no idea why the wires in question are cut.

If your security light comes on when you first turn the key, and then goes out, you dont' have a VATS problem... if the light flashes or stays on steady, you have a problem. Have you had the starter tested?
The wires are red and come off the area of the coil, and the positive cable.
The car does crank indefinately, and as stated, will start the first time say every 23 hours if it sits. It will then run til you shut it off but wont restart.

Sounds like an ignition problem. Maybe the ignition module or pick up coil.
