Swapping to a TPI
Swapping to a TPI
Let me start of by saying first time poster here but realize all the knowledgeable people around here. Ok down to the point could use alittle help... I swapping my 89 chevy truck (350) from tbi to tpi. Is there any year i should stay away from? Or is there a year that would be the sh** to get. Should i go sd or tb system. I do already know that if i end up a 305 all that need is the 22lb injectors (i assume no other differances between 305 and 350 stuff). I also plan on doing my own programing too maybe not right away but soon.
Thanks a lot

Well first off, welcome to the boards..Second you will want a setup off a 87 or newer due to the angle of the center mount holes on the newer heads.. The two types are SD (speed Density..1990-92) or MAF (Mass Air Flow...1985-89) Both will do. Unless you are looking for over 450hp the MAF system is what you should get, easier to start off programming. The ECM's are different from 305 to 350 if I remember correctly, but other then the injectors the rest of the intakes are the same. I hope this helps, and again Welcome to the Boards!!
Thanks for the info one question though.... Cant I just elongate the center bolt holes on the manifold if i can only get ahold of an older one.. Also is there a manifold that flows better than the rest?
Thanks again

No need to thank me ..I enjoy helping..And yes you can elongate the holes to match, just some don't suggest it, but yes it does and will work. As for the Manifold. I am guessing you mean the intake manifold and not the exhaust correct? If yes, you can buy things like TPIS Big mouth, or the Accel intake, but I personally think they are far to pricey, and you can port and polish the stock base to allow a bit better flow. If it come down to you wanting HP in excess of 400hp, you will need to get SLP runners or something to really open up the entire intake. Which generally means don't bother buying any factory stuff till you know what you are looking at. Do a search on TPI intakes, adn it should give you a good amount of reading to do...
