Air Conditioning
Air Conditioning
I searched the forums and could not find this covered...
Anyways I have a 88 Iroc-Z 350TPI and was wondering if I remove the air conditioning pump and the box if it will trip any ECM codes? I've also heard that there is a "slight" performance benefit from doing this.
Can someone shed some light on this?
Thanks....

The performance gain is on paper only. It's not actually a difference. You only gain maybe 2 or 3 HP. And the AC itself is only 15 or 20LBS. Not enough to make it worthwhile.
The best reason to remove it is to get extra room in your engine bay for working on your car. If your AC doesn't work and you have no reason or intentions of fixing it. You should remove it.
You will need to get an AC delete pully to maintain proper belt operation. As well as a non-AC heater box. You can get those on the web or on Ebay.
It will not trip any codes BTW.

As I said if it doesn't work and you don't need it where you are. Might as well pull it. But other than that there is no reason to do so.
