going straight from the 85 maf system (870 ecm) to SD (730) is actually 2 conversions. 870-->165-->730 Mike Davis' site has all the info you need to do it successfully. I did mine successfully last year from the info on his site.

you need to do research and be familiar with what you're changing and have any questions cleared up and have all the parts needed before you start. If you do, it will go much smoother. There is alot of stuff to repin on the wiring harness. I just made an excel spreadsheet detailing pin changes from the 870 to the 165 and finally to the 730. I would recommend making the wiring harness adaptor per the instructions on Mike Davis' website at first. This would be beneficial because you will be able to swap between the 870 and 730 setups so you can make sure everything with the 730 setup works correctly without making any permanent changes. Then, after you get all the bugs/kinks worked out, you can repin your actual wiring harness to make the swap permanent(by this time, you will be good at getting the pins out of the connector without breaking them and soldering stuff) well worth the effort IMO.....
