engine ideas
Alright i've recently have the opportunity to buy a 86 Iroc, hardtop, with the stock t-5 trans, 3.73 gears and posi, it comes with koni struts an the body, interior, and trans has only about 52,000 miles on it, more specific, here is the ad for it. https://www.thirdgen.org/classifieds...tgo?adid=20554 now my first question is do u think everything is still working? The guy says that the original owner had pulled the engine out at 32,000 miles and it's been sitting in the garage ever since. Now i figure that's a pretty long time to be sitting around, should i even consider looking at this car? Alright now with the TPI part of this question It has no motor, but right now i have an 86 Iroc with the TPI and all the engine components, so i want to build a new engine and stick with TPI. I wanna go the HSR route, with the AFR 190's, a good cam, and a set of SLP headers, but my question is what kind of short block should i look for? I've read the posts and some say the ZZ4 but does it really make a difference on what kind of block i use? I'm looking for a budget of 3-4 thousand dollars, if u guys have any suggestions i would really appricate it. Thanks. And sorry for the long post.

well u want to keep the tpi but wannna get HSR? i dunno, look into some nice crate engines...check out www.speedomotive.com, they got 383 short blocks for cheap, u could build a nasty engine
Thanks, yea i called the guy up and he gave me some really good prices for a 383, but now's the big question, what kind of fuel injection? I have the tune port setup, i mentioned HSR to the guy and he said they were going chapter 11 so he mentioned accel, and edelbrock, i don't kno much about them, can anyone shed some light on them? Or should i just buy the block, and just put the AFR heads on myself and the TPI and then the HSR? thanks.
On and i kno it's a bit early but what kind of cam should i get? I've read that many use the Hot cam but others have called it a wussy cam.

if ur building a bad *** engine, buy a crane or comp cam that will work well with the rest of ur combo...holley is going bankrupt? i dunno if thats true...if ur buildin a 383, id use some sort of tunnel ram, def dont use tpi...check out the tpis mini ram, looks pretty bad
...if u plan on going this route, the short block with afr heads and some new intake and all the crap ull need with the engine, ur gonna be lookin at several thousand bucks...depends on ur cash money, u can get the 383 long block, put a bad *** cam in it and intake and save urself a couple thou id imagine...do ur research first, good luck

I highly doubt Holley is bankrupt. Maybe though.
You can use any block you like for your car, just get the right flywheel to mate up to your trans. The ZZ4 is a good deal. You mentioned a 3-4K budget. I think you are going to be needing more money if you are going with a new engine, AFRs, valvetrain, and exhaust. Look around though, deals are out there...

that would be weird if holley went bankrupt since off the top of my head it seems like any new stuff they've had in the past while has at least been marginally if not wildly successful. Even the TBI stuff aparently has a niche market, strange as that might be to some.
