installed Hooker super comps.. need a little help
i had my super comps installed this week... and the engine appears to be running very strong, the engine revs up extremely fast compared to the old manifolds.... so, i'm sure i got some horespower gains and the torque felt fine...
but.... i haven't been able to actually make a wot run because the freaking brake vacuum assist has been disconnected and i guess the hose is still at the shop...
to the point of this post--
the mechanic broke off some kind of switch or sensor of some sort and the local chevy dealer had no idea what part it is.....
this sensor/switch is located right below my passenger side header flange between the #6 and #8 cylinder... the part of it that is still connected is made of brass and it's about the same diameter as a quarter(25cents)
car is an '89 IROC with a 5speed tranny... person i bought it from said it had a 350 switched into it in place of the 305(i dunno if i believe that or not, but that may be a clue as to what this part is)
anybody have a clue what this is?
thx for the help

Sounds like that's your auxiliary fan switch. It's a thermostatically-controlled switch that closes at a given temperature, switching the aux fan relay and powering the fan.
Cheap part, easy to replace (even without draining the coolant if you're fast) and definitely not something you want to do without during Summer weather.
You can make things better for yourself by using one for a 1987 Buick Regal VIN 7...on temp is ~203degF versus 220+ for the Camaro piece. Direct fit, no mods needed.

Coolant Temp Sensor is on the front of your intake if it's a TPI engine, 2-pin plastic connector near the coolant output nipple, both face toward the radiator.
