Auto to Manual swap... need new chip?

ok I did some more research and noticed that the auto manual swap needs a new chip or memcal or ECM? which would be easiest. Also what am I looking for? will the 87 computer work without any mods? If so anyone selling one or a comparable one?

You don't "need" a new chip. You will notice some weird things with idle every now and again after the swap.

You can just replace the PROM, but since it's soldered into the memcal as one unit, the "easiest" way is to just buy a same year PROM / Memcal for a TPI 305 T5 car.

What year is your car? What engine and tranny did it come with? What's in it now?

what is the difference between the memcal and the prom?

i have an 89 IROC with a stock 350 TPI and t56 from a 96 TA, will an 89 305 tpi/t5 memcal and prom work for me too, does it matter that i have a 350 and id be using a 305 memcal/prom? i would think it would be programmed differently, but i dont know.

is something like this what i would need? is this just a prom or is it a memcal and a prom?

305 prom vs 350 prom

u will need to use the 350 prom for ur set up because the 305 prom will not feed it enough fuel, 305 stock proms are set with #19 injectors and 350 proms have #22 injectors, so u will either need a 350/t5 prom or a custom one thats set for the right # injectors

So can I just goto a boneyard and try to find an 87 manual tpi TA/Z28 prom/memcal or just the whole ECM? Or will I have problems doing this and should just get a custom one?
