Is a 4 gauge wire comming from the batery big enough to start my engine?
I just got my car all back togeather I did have a 4 and a 8 guage wire comming from my battery going to the starter. I moved the 8 guage from my starter to the alt. Im not sure is that is whats making it hard to start or my starter is dieing. Any info would be great.
Also the reworked heads with new vavle seals and guides no longer smokes at all and open headers sounds sweet.

4 gauge should do it unless it's a fine strand like stereo wire. Fine strand wires like that tend to corrode more quickly resulting in hard starting. If it's all new and the heavier strand automotive cable, then it should start fine with 4 gauge... From a front mounted battery anyway. Also, make sure your grounds are the same size or larger wires!

I've run 2 ga Phoenix Gold wire to my starter for years and works fine. Bigger wire = less voltage drop
But since it's just a short run, 4 would be fine.
