Intake differences???

I read on the Tech Data page that you had to deduct 5-10 HP/TQ from the camaro ratings to get the firebird's TPI ratings because of different intake designs and I was wondering what kind a differences there were and if anyone had pics showing the them?

Maybe that is referring to the air intake design differences because the TPI should be the same. On the Camaro it has the two filters in front to the radiator and a straight shot into the throttle body. On the Firebird, it has a single air filter on the side of the engine compartment with a curved intake track to the throttle body. I bet those small differences make up for a few ponies and TQ overall...

Ok, that makes sense. I was just wondering as it said intake and didn't specify.

This is where I would usually jump in and tell you that the hp/tq differences are due to the fact that 3rdGen Camaros are WAY cooler than Firebirds but that'd start a flame war and get this post locked by a moderator that would then be described as a "****" for merely doing his job on this here great website totally dedicated to the best generation of the poor man's domestic sports car.

So I won't make that statement.
I won't get lectured by a mod.
And this thread won't be locked.

Have a nice day!!

Yes, they meant the air intake tract differences. The 'Birs has a longer distance to travel and more bends to go around. Would have been nice if they'd have put a little more thought into the 'Bird's air tract.

I noticed the other day that the 86 tpi plenum on my shelf was noticably longer than my 91 plenum.

Because it's different. They changed it trying to improve the design some.
