Bring down the temp?

Since summer is here - what is the best way to bring the running temp down.

The fans will kick in at about 230 and bring the temp down to 180 - I would like them to kick in at 180 and bring it down to 140 or 160.

What is the best way to get this change made - temp sending unit?

Car is an 88 IROC-Z with a 5.7TPI

You could change the thermostat to a 180* or get a manual switch to so you can turn the fans on when you want then to come on.

Hypertech Cool Fan Switch [cuts on at 176, off at 166 degrees F]
Hypertech Cool Fan Switch [cuts on at 200, off at 185 degrees F]

a good combo would be, 170 stat and the fan switch that cuts on at 200.

Kool - thx MD - that is the kind of info I needed. I still feel 200 is too high for my taste - this car performs much better below 180.

So I will prob pick up the 176 switch and I will have to shop around for a lower stat (140 or so).

One more question - do you know if I need to purchase the thermal chip in order to use this? I could not find that answer on Hypertech's website.

the lowest i would run is 160, and i wouldnt even run that low.

i dont think u will need a chip, the fan switch should turn on the fan earlier.

dont use hypercrap... check this out https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/cool8dual.pdf

also dont run a 160.... it will mess up your puter. i just used a 180 and drilled 2 small holes in it and did the tech article, my car never hits 200 anymore.

I run a 195 stat, turn on both fans around 95 degrees Celcius. I'm running a 730 ecm(90-92 TPI), of course you have to be able to burn proms though.

My car never goes above 200-205d

So far I have printed out the doc that SMURFN' posted - I havent had a chance to read it yet.

If I have to spend the money - I will go the route of a programable chip.
