Downside to not running a stat?
I purchased my car abot 2 months ago, and have notices that the temp never gets above 160 or so. Also i used to see the temp rise in my old 86 and then drop off when the stat would open. My IROC has never done this, and I am guessing the previous owner removed the thermostat and never replaced it. How bad is this? I was thinking of going with a nice low stat and just wanted to know if its going to cause any damage down the road, or negative effects. Thanks guys

your radiator is a heat exchanger............without the time to be there long enuff to let heat off, eventually it will overload the system.........
it will work when its cooler out, but u need the t-stat in there.
Cars run more efficiently when they are at 180-200 degrees than the do at 160 as well, contrary to what u see and are told..
oh well
enuff for now

PS u got a hyperjunk chip keeping your fans running 24/7 cause thats about alll they do

Actually my fan does run all the time, but they didn't use a chip. And I will definitely pick up a 180 stat. Lckily it stays really cool here by the coast. But I will watch it..... Car has a measly 2 core rad anyway, and I might upgrade this summer
