its an 86 TPI.It will idle for a few seconds then die,or as soon as I touch the gas it dies also.It was running fine then died on the road as I was driving.Any suggestions?

 

Hey steve, my trans am did that once. It was the mass air flow sensors and relays. There are two relays for your mass air flow sensor. A power relay and a burn off relay. I believe that they are both the same part number. They are located on the driver side right next to your firewall. They are pretty inexpensive. I would try to replace both of those. I would imagine though that you probably will have to replace the sensor itself.
