What engine is it?????

I have an 89 IROC with a 350 in it. Well it came with a 305, but whoever had it before me put the 350 in it...I don't know if its an L98 or whatever engine it might be...seeing its not the stock engine it might just be crate. But I don't really know...I would appreciate any help.. Thanks

get me the numbers on the stamping pad on the front passenger side of the motor.
wipe off the pad with whatever, and you can see it with a
flashlight for the numbers, from up top, looking straight down
its at the base of the valve cover, on the leading edge of the head mounting surface.

if you are looking at it as if draining the oil, look for the dipstick tube tunnel where it goes down into the pan. if there is one on either side of the block, with only the passenger side being used, it is a replacement block from mexico...... aka target or crate motor normally.

Well for one...its not a crate. the guy I bought the car from said just the block was new. The heads, and intake were stock on the 305 that was orginally in it

they sell crate motors as short blocks for warranty repairs all day long.

worked at a dealership for a year, have seen all kinds of things that weren't supposed to happen.
also, if you get me that number off of the front pad, it will tell you if it is a GM original, or a replacement.

usually, guys will beat the hell out of a motor in whatever, then have it replaced under warranty, or pay the difference for an upgrade.

case in point...
my rear in my 93 chevy truck was making noise. under warranty, it was fixed for free. the used car manager ok'd the mechanic putting in a low mileage posi carrier for free, because it actually was cheaper for the warrantied repair that was charged back to the used car department.

substitute a 350 for a 305 in the same story.......

those front pad numbers wont lie.....
