When does the stock "chip" have to go?
Ok, I'm gonna run SLP headers/catback this fall. I'm hoping to add the Scoggin Dickey TPI manifold and the vortec heads this spring. Now I know that to optimize any set-up, your gonna have to some prom work, but how far can I go before drivability suffers. After the heads/Man./intake, I was hoping to throw in a cam and THEN get a prom burnt. Can I wait this long, or will the heads and manifold need a chip? I know patience is a virtue...but my pockets are only so deep!

If you don't wait too long, you'll probably be fine with those initial upgrades and the stock chip. Don't expect it to give you any major gains until you modify the prom, though.

You're going to be held back sure, but those mods will still see you good gains. Then, when they're all done, you can burn one nice prom and see just how much you sacrificed with the stocker. I'd say after intake, exhaust, heads and cam, a good burn will net you anywhere from 20-40 rear wheel horses
