Lt1 in an early l98 non roller engine???

I know it's a flat tappet block, but i read somewhere you can tap and bolt the retainer (spider) in there, the link below is an auction for instructions.
How about the timing gear would an older one work on the lt1 cam?

I have the cam lifters pushrods and retainer laying around.
Let me know what you think

bigals,

Have you installed your zz4 yet? I am considering it in mine but skeered it's to big.
I have a stage 1.5-2 port job. (I need to flow them on my bench)
there at the machine shop til tommorrow.
.600 springs, 2.02in 1.60ex, with chrome moly retainers

Just wandering what you expect from it or how it's doing

Thanks

Aren't the lifter bores in the non-roller blocks shorter ? I seem to remember something about drilling and tapping for the retainer & running the factory setup not working because the lifter bores aren't tall enough for the longer hydraulic lifters. I could be wrong/misinformed though. I know people who have done this on Ford engines and it worked for them. Still prefer Chevys!

Do you have a 305 or a 350? Im guessing you hav ea 350 due to the other post!! hehe Nah the ZZ4 cam is pretty mild for a 350, but would wake up my peanut cammed 305 very well. I havent put it in yet due to the lack of heads!!! Im thinking of several options to this.. buying SR 305s (yeah i said SR 305s!!), porting stock... or perhaps getting my hands on some vette heads.. but that would cause so much more problems. Ill probably get my heads ported or get a set of heads pre-ported and the spring seats ground for bigger spings.
