smog/air pump?
my friends little brother just bout a 91 Z28 with a 305 TPI. the pulley on his air pump is locked up solid and wont budge. i was suprised to see the air pump on this car. my 87 irocz 305 tpi did not have one. i know it is a common thing to remove and bypass the airpump on alot of older cars in order to get horsepower. is it worth spending the money to buy a new one and replace it? have any of you guys bypassed it and removed it? how does the car run? will it pass inspection? can someone shed some light on the best choice in this situation. thanks
i live in massachusettes....and rerouting the belt shouldnt be too much of a problem. prob gonan reroute it around the a/c compressor too if thats possible. anyone know what would cause the pulley on the air pump to lock up?
I hear Mass's laws on emissions are just as bad if not worse then NJ. CA/NJ/MA are the worst in car inspections. Im not sure, but if Mass has a visual inspection, which means they open your hood and look around, then you have a 50/50 chance of them:
1- knowing wtf to look for!
2- know that its not there
3- knowing what should be there
4- just looking at the TPI!! (Its the runners that attracts attention!)
I know in NJ people have skated by with no cat, no egr, and no AIR. You should try to talk to people from MA and see how far they went. PM TunedPort335.
And where in Mass are you from?

the air pump it self apparently locked up which would cause the pullet not to spin anymore, must of been burning the belt or making a noise when it locked up, definitely not something good to happen.
i took mine off when i did non air headers, and cat(s) delete.
i would just unbolt the pulley bolts, then the bolts holding the pump in place.
i also had o get a bigger belt and re-route it.
over the a/c delete pulley, under the tensioner, over the alternator, under power steering, over and around water pump, under crank. i think my new belt was 2 inches bigger.
