Cold Air Intake?
A friend of mine sugested that the first modification that I do to my 87 5.0 TPI would be a cold air intake. He said that its easy, and would improve performance. I don't know what a Cold Air Intake would accomplish or how it would help me out. My question is... What good does a Cold Air Intake do?

Does it really make that much difference? I just took my stock airbox out, which definately gives it better airflow. If it is better, does someone have a picture of it installed. I don't see one fitting under my hood.

truth be told, in our cars - a cold air intake is a better appearance modification than performance modification. On a stock engine, you will see a gain of between 0 and 5 hp. That's it. So it's up to you whether or not you think it's worth it.
Check my site for a write-up on my semi-cold air intake. I think it made the engine bay look much cleaner, and offered a slight gain in performance.
And that .3 in the q-mile will take ALOT more than a cold-air intake.

The cold air intake allows for cooler, more dense air to be sucked in from under the car, rather than next to the hot radiator. The cooler, more dense the air is the better the combustion, the more power. It's all up to you weather you want to spend the money. I think it would be good for your car in my opinion.

Is it really that much better. On my car it looks like it would sit exactly where my stock intake. So, how does that improve anything? I understand that cold air = more dense air = more horsepower, but on a T/A, how does it work better? Does anyone have a picture of their setup on a T/A?

The better setups (i.e. not mine - mine's more for looks and an improvement over the 1987 crapmatic airbox) have a hold drilled through the passenger side where the air filter normally sits. They then mount the filter under that...allowing nothing but cool air.
