Stock IAC count @ idle?
Short and sweet:
What should an IAC count at idle be on a stock '87 L98? \
What can cause this to lower?
Thanks in advance!:hail:

I like mine around 15 counts. Lower the numbers the more air getting in, so It could be the blades opened to far or a small vac leak and the IAC set at 0 trying to control the air in. Higher the number the more the IAC has control of whats going on.

U can put it whatever you want. say your RPM is 650 at 15 counts. You close the TB some more and it'll stay at 650 but the IAC coutns will be at 40. Close it some more and your idle will still be 650 but your coutns will be higher. Higher the counts the more air the IAC is letting in to maintain the idle. As long as you have your target idle within the IAC's ability your ok.

Thanks for responding Mkos!
I guess I am going about this question the wrong way. What I am wondering is if a low IAC count at idle can be an indicator of a vacuum leak and if so what would qualify as a 'low' IAC count for idle on a stock, or mostly, L98?

low iac would indicate leak. when my L98 was stock it was at about 40 and my GFs car was around 21. it all varies. each throttle body may have had the screw turned in a tad to much or a tad less. Now if you have a dirty IAC housing the readings will be higher because of a little blockage of carbon. Clean it out and since the air can move in faster the IAC counts will go down. if you are seeing counts I would not worry at all.

I set mine at 5 counts. Seems to be the best idle.
If you have zero counts and the idle is swinging violently, that is a near sure sign of a vac leak. Use some ether and check all around the intake for leaks. Just use small amounts of it, as its flamable.
